ECD uses one printing process but offers a choice of covercoat. This is the material that is the vehicle for the ceramic toner to move off the decal paper and onto the ceramic surface.
The yellowish covercoat contains NO flux -- therefore, the decal appears to rest on top of the glaze. It also means that it cannot be used on surfaces that need to be food-safe. But the big advantage is that it hardly leaves any trace on the fired piece (which means you can cut out your decals without precision, even if you want a crisp image).
The bluish covercoat DOES contain flux. This makes it food-safe, but it also means that the areas around the printed image will look like a clear glaze has been applied (so careful cutting is necessary if you don't want the decal to look like a sticker).
